Let’s Talk: Disney+ Day

Let's Talk

So, we sort of got some news.

While this was the official first Disney+ Day, last year’s event left many hyped for this year’s announcements. And we at least got announcements, although not much else. And because of this, unfortunately, we are left only doing a blog post as there wasn’t much content for us to talk about in a whole podcast episode. So instead of rambling, I’ll break it all down.

The first announcement we received was some footage of Moon Knight. What we saw looks awesome and it definitely feels that there will be a darker turn in some of these future characters that Marvel is bringing to the table. An unfortunate piece of information is that we didn’t get official dates for Moon Knight, or for anything really. However, since Moon Knight has footage and has been filming, we know this should be one of the shows we see sooner rather than later. Of course, we never know, as Ms. Marvel was also pushed back and has been for quite a while now. Regardless, I am definitely ready for the darkness of Marvel and want to know how this will impact some of the heroes we already know.

I have to say I think She Hulk is probably the Marvel live action project I am looking forward to the most. The concept of the entire Hulk family has always intrigued me from the comics and I am glad Marvel seems to be setting this up. I was surprised that we received footage for this show, but I am fully grateful we did. I love that we are seeing more of Bruce and I am intrigued to see how Marvel explains, well, everything. Bruce has always sorta been there as Hulk, so seeing him have a cousin who also has the Hulk inside of her is going to be an interesting twist in his character’s story. Of course, having She Hulk in general is going to be cool and if we see any sort of World War Hulk in the future I might just lose it.

Now this show has stumped me for a little while and I think Taylor could say the same. If I remember correctly, we have now predicted for the past two movies to have end credits that deal with Ms. Marvel, only for none to come. We also assumed we were going to be getting it between What If? and Hawkeye, which also is very clearly not true. Now that the show has been pushed back to Summer 2022, it’s time to think about the implications this has on the second film for Captain Marvel. We know we are seeing Ms. Marvel in the film and can take this show as a for sure origin story to fill in the gap before seeing her on the big screen. What else it could entail is up in the air and why it has been pushed back so much continuously throws me off. Due to Ms. Marvel’s younger age, I am intrigued to see if she may have a later appearance in Young Avengers, as we know that is eventually going to make an appearance in the MCU. However, we finally saw some real images of Ms. Marvel and the only thing I have to say is: tell me she gets a better costume later on lol.

Of course, Season 2 of What If? comes as no surprise since the cast was released a few weeks back. I loved the concept of What If? and so I am definitely looking forward to more stories from it. I am also excited because the cast shows the inclusion of Phase 4 characters, such as Yelena. What If? itself is still unclear on whether it will hold any real implications on our MCU or not, but I am beginning to think that it won’t. The concept of What If? leaves writers with literally endless possible storylines, meaning if Marvel chooses, they could make 5, 10, even 15 seasons of What If? Would it get old? Yes, possibly, just because it will lose the novelty, but it means that it is less likely to play any type of part in the real MCU.

Marvel has been using their shows to fill in holes along the way of their films. Echo is the first show that fills in the hole of another show, at least so far. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Echo is to make an appearance in Hawkeye. This may help tie in Kingpin and Daredevil into the MCU. Now that there has been confirmation of future Spider-Man content after No Way Home, I think this show is going to be critical in bridging the gap between the crime scene of New York and our Spider-Man. I think it may also help to bring in some interesting characters that Spider-Man has a tie to in the comics but we have not seen on the big screen. Due to Echo’s nature to be tied to Daredevil, it may be possible this is part of how Marvel’s Daredevil is introduced, or we may see more of Echo on her own.

I am honestly praying that this show depicts the spider biting Peter. I know, I know, we’ve seen it before and know how it goes. But let me just say, because we haven’t seen it with the MCU’s Spider-Man, it is technically uncharted territory for Marvel here. Since this is also a sort of filler show, the implications moving forward for the MCU aren’t too present. So I would like to see how he gets bit, how he realizes he has special abilities, the whole jist. And to be fair, now that the new Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer has discussed Peter and the spider, getting the full background isn’t completely out of reach.

Another filler type show, I am so excited baby Groot once again. Of course he stole my heart and teenage Groot stole my attitude. Just kidding. But I am really here to see more of Groot growing up back into regular sized Groot. The biggest question I have in relation to this show is what time frames it will span. Seeing Groot through life phases in the MCU, are we to start to assume we are getting adult Groot once again in the third Guardians? Either way, some of the shows deal with heavy topics, so getting to spend some time with our favorite tree is going to be a nice break.

Iron Man fans, I’m sorry, but get ready to pass the mantel. I know it can be hard and no one will ever truly be Tony, but it is time. But don’t count yourself out of Tony time completely, as Ironheart is known to gain help from an AI version of Tony. I am really excited to see the next generation Iron Man come. Another origin, I don’t totally know what to expect. Ironheart does have some background with the Ten Rings (not the organization the like literal rings and their history), so this could be really interesting as we know Shang-Chi’s end credit scene hinted at much more coming from those rings. I think this could be a very cool direction to take Ironheart, so I would not entirely be surprised if we see her meet up at some point with Dr. Strange or Shang-Chi somewhere in her show, or more so an end-credit scene. Other than that, the rest of the show will likely rest on her becoming Ironheart.

Oh Agatha. What a great character that I expect to see of Marvel, and I don’t mean just this show. Although this will definitely be interesting, understand more of Agatha as a character, especially as we delve even deeper into the Scarlet Witch. With this show having obvious ties to Wanda, I want to see how this will play a part in some later MCU works.

AHHHHHHHHHH I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. If no one believes me, check the What If? podcast and blog post to see how I literally said we deserve more of Marvel Zombies. I am so freaking happy we are getting it and I hope that it maybe ties in with the What If? episode (mainly because I would love to see them fight Zombie Thanos). This is 100% my favorite announcement that Marvel made this Disney+ Day and I am shaking over how excited I am to see this show. I would still love a live action, but this show is just enough to keep me satisfied.

Secret Invasion is one of the shows we’ve known about for quite awhile. We also have known about the general premise, as Skrulls have been popping up since Captain Marvel. Now that we know Fury is in space with the Skrulls and Monica is being pulled in as well, I’m unsure what we may expect from this show. Are we going to see the Skrulls be the bad guy, the people we thought they were originally in Captain Marvel? Or is there much more to this narrative of Secret Invasion. As we only received one small glimpse of Fury looking veryyyy different than the last time we saw him, right now it is hard to say what this show will entail. But I wouldn’t at all be surprised if it helps lead into Captain Marvel 2.

Not too much to say about this one, solely because it is a gift given to us late 90s and early 2000s kids who grew up watching it. Anyone else ready for a trip back to our childhood? I think we could use it. Here’s to hoping that Marvel does one of the best superhero cartoons well (or I’m sure we will let them know).

Alright so that just about covers all of the releases from Disney+ Day. Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, not a lot of information came out on Disney+ Day, mainly just titles. This means that there aren’t a ton of theories or predictions yet on what may happen in these shows, since some have absolutely no description to them and are just floating titles. Either way, very excited to see everything that Marvel is bringing to our TV, both live action and cartoon. And this is all to say that Marvel is putting out a ton of content in the next two years, so make sure to keep up, since Marvel just blew your mind, so let’s talk about it.
