We are less than two weeks from our first second season of any MCU show. That’s right, Loki Season 2 is knocking on our doorstep and we are hyped to see what crazy stuff our time-traveling God of Mischief is up to. But whether you can believe it or not, that means it has also been over two years since the first season, where quite a bit happened. So, to prepare for Season 2, we are reviewing the top 3 things to remember as you get comfy on your couches for the upcoming premiere.
1. Loki and Sylvie killed He Who Remains

I’m sure this is one of the harder things to have forgotten from Season 1, but in case you did, here’s the rundown. He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror, is living at the end of time and has created the TVA to ensure that any differences in the correct timeline are not able to build and affect the timeline itself. Simply put, he is ensuring the Multiverse stays closed and only one timeline, the Sacred timeline, remains. He gives a whole explanation on how all his variants essentially suck and they are reaching the point in which he can no longer see how everything will play out. There are various theories as to why this happens, but the most straightforward one is that it is because his death is coming. Fast forward through a lot of talking and Sylvie sticks a knife through He Who Remains, killing him, and in turn, allowing the Multiverse to open.
The reason this is not only significant to remember for Loki Season 2 but also the larger MCU is because any work that has used the Multiverse such as Spider-Man: No Way Home or Multiverse of Madness, was only able to do so through Sylvie’s actions. The Multiverse is now 100% open and we are already seeing ramifications, such as Dr. Strange now dealing with an incursion that will likely be the leading factor getting us to Secret Wars. But in the sense of Season 2, we have to be prepared to deal with not just time travel but also different universes, which leads us directly into our second important moment to remember from the first season.
2. Loki is in a Different Timeline

After Sylvie unalives He Who Remains, she and Loki share a moment before she shoves him through one of the TVA time portals. This on its own is an issue, as she could have calibrated it to go anywhere. But the bigger issue is when Loki comes through the portal into a TVA that has a massive Kang overlooking him. Then to make matters worse, he finds Mobius just for Mobius to have no clue who he is. Pretty much, we currently have no clue with Loki actually is, both in time and universe.
Additionally, our second protagonist, Sylvie, was at the end of time when we saw her last. I don’t want to get too much into Season 2, but we know the two do find each other again, so it will be interesting to see that process take place. It may also aid in explaining how time and the Multiverse intertwine, so paying attention to the first episode and any explanations we get will be pivotal.
3. Loki will be Going After Victor Timely

This one may seem weird and confusing if you are only thinking of Season 1, but we did get an important nugget of information from the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania end credit scene. While both end credit scenes dealt with Kang, one specifically dealt with the variant of Kang that Loki and Mobius look to be after in the upcoming season. I won’t go into detail about Victor Timely, as we did discuss him in our Quantumania coverage, so make sure to go check that out if you are looking for some details on him. However, that end credit helps us know that we are going to be witnessing a third variant of Kang in Loki Season 2.
While trailers have made Victor’s prominence appear limited (which could also reflect the ongoing legal issues with Jonathan Majors), we can prepare for Loki to go after Kang and his variants this season. Whether he is going to try and have him pruned or to use him to help his apparent time-slipping problem, we will have to watch to find out. But once again, Loki’s plotline looks to be preparing to set up some bigger repercussions for the MCU moving forward.
Loki Season 2 is going to likely blow our minds just like the first one did and we cannot wait to start covering it. And we are so lucky because we really don’t have to wait much longer. Our predictions episode is going to be coming out next Monday, which will kick off at least 7 weeks of coverage. Get ready and keep up with us, as Marvel just blew your mind, so let’s talk about it.
