The rumors are flying again but with a little more force.
Every few months, the rumors of Henry Cavill entering the MCU start up again and again. Many are big fans of the idea, especially as the unofficial rivalry with the DCEU would mean that the MCU would be stealing arguably one of the best Supermans to ever exist. Yet beyond that, Cavill has personally made it clear that he wouldn’t be against a role in the always-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yet this time, the rumors appear to be more than rumors, as many legitimate sources have shared that Cavill has officially been cast for an unknown MCU role. As we are never ones to shy away from some rumors and speculation, let’s discuss some of the possible roles he could play.
1. Captain Britain
The most obvious choice and the one that Henry Cavill himself has spoken about is Captain Britain. This character is England’s counterpart to Captain America. As Chris Evans was to that role, Cavill easily could step into the role of Captain Britain and continue a similar legacy. Additionally, with a Multiverse open, it could be a pretty easy way to bring him into the fold. However, two things now hold this character’s introduction back. The first is that we have already replaced the Captain America figure with another Captain America, aka Sam Wilson, who stepped up to the mantle early in Phase 4 and has his first solo movie coming next year. We also have Captain Carter, a character that has seen a lot of screen time in What If? and also made a live-action appearance in MoM. She is fairly equivalent to the Captain Britain figure, so having them both would be rather redundant.
2. Cyclops
A fairly new rumor that has surfaced with the MCU X-Men seemingly around the corner is the possibility of Cavill playing Cyclops. This would actually be a very interesting place, as not only does he look the part, but it could be a fairly long-running role for him. Cyclops is also known as one of the more popular and important mutants, last played by James Marsden in the original X-Men. A powerful mutant, Cavill could easily fill the spot and with his acting abilities, do it very well.
3. Doctor Doom
Another big movie coming around the corner and also an MCU reboot, Fantastic Four is about a year and a half away from release. With the main cast being announced only a few short weeks ago, one familiar and severely important face was missing: Doctor Doom. Now, while many different actors have been fancasted, with some like Cillian Murphy quickly becoming favorites in the mix, Cavill’s name also is being thrown in as well. With the timely rumors of him taking an MCU role and the knowledge that we just got the F4 cast, people were quick to make assumptions that Cavill’s mysterious role could be rounding out the F4 main cast, playing the infamous villain. With Secret Wars also on the way in the future, where Doom plays a critical role, this character is destined to make a big impact in the MCU. Cavill would certainly be an interesting selection to play Doom but one that could really pay off if the character is written properly with him in mind.
4. Black Bolt
The final and slightly more surprising one on this list is Black Bolt, part of the Inhumans. If I were a betting person, I would say that this is likely the least favorable option on this list, and not because I don’t have full faith that Cavill would do a great job. It’s mainly because at the end of the day, with the mutants entrance to the MCU around the corner, the Inhumans are likely not going to be coming anytime soon. The groups are very similar, and while we did get Black Bolt as a cameo in MoM, a full introduction being led in by someone like Henry Cavill seems unlikely. With him in that role, it would mean that Marvel would try and build a real story around the Inhumans, which seems like something they wouldn’t want to invest time in right now. The only caveat is that Secret Wars is coming soon, so anything theoretically is possible, but I wouldn’t put all my eggs in this basket.
We are less than two weeks from our first second season of any MCU show. That’s right, Loki Season 2 is knocking on our doorstep and we are hyped to see what crazy stuff our time-traveling God of Mischief is up to. But whether you can believe it or not, that means it has also been over two years since the first season, where quite a bit happened. So, to prepare for Season 2, we are reviewing the top 3 things to remember as you get comfy on your couches for the upcoming premiere.
I’m sure this is one of the harder things to have forgotten from Season 1, but in case you did, here’s the rundown. He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror, is living at the end of time and has created the TVA to ensure that any differences in the correct timeline are not able to build and affect the timeline itself. Simply put, he is ensuring the Multiverse stays closed and only one timeline, the Sacred timeline, remains. He gives a whole explanation on how all his variants essentially suck and they are reaching the point in which he can no longer see how everything will play out. There are various theories as to why this happens, but the most straightforward one is that it is because his death is coming. Fast forward through a lot of talking and Sylvie sticks a knife through He Who Remains, killing him, and in turn, allowing the Multiverse to open.
The reason this is not only significant to remember for Loki Season 2 but also the larger MCU is because any work that has used the Multiverse such as Spider-Man: No Way Home or Multiverse of Madness, was only able to do so through Sylvie’s actions. The Multiverse is now 100% open and we are already seeing ramifications, such as Dr. Strange now dealing with an incursion that will likely be the leading factor getting us to Secret Wars. But in the sense of Season 2, we have to be prepared to deal with not just time travel but also different universes, which leads us directly into our second important moment to remember from the first season.
After Sylvie unalives He Who Remains, she and Loki share a moment before she shoves him through one of the TVA time portals. This on its own is an issue, as she could have calibrated it to go anywhere. But the bigger issue is when Loki comes through the portal into a TVA that has a massive Kang overlooking him. Then to make matters worse, he finds Mobius just for Mobius to have no clue who he is. Pretty much, we currently have no clue with Loki actually is, both in time and universe.
Additionally, our second protagonist, Sylvie, was at the end of time when we saw her last. I don’t want to get too much into Season 2, but we know the two do find each other again, so it will be interesting to see that process take place. It may also aid in explaining how time and the Multiverse intertwine, so paying attention to the first episode and any explanations we get will be pivotal.
This one may seem weird and confusing if you are only thinking of Season 1, but we did get an important nugget of information from the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania end credit scene. While both end credit scenes dealt with Kang, one specifically dealt with the variant of Kang that Loki and Mobius look to be after in the upcoming season. I won’t go into detail about Victor Timely, as we did discuss him in our Quantumania coverage, so make sure to go check that out if you are looking for some details on him. However, that end credit helps us know that we are going to be witnessing a third variant of Kang in Loki Season 2.
While trailers have made Victor’s prominence appear limited (which could also reflect the ongoing legal issues with Jonathan Majors), we can prepare for Loki to go after Kang and his variants this season. Whether he is going to try and have him pruned or to use him to help his apparent time-slipping problem, we will have to watch to find out. But once again, Loki’s plotline looks to be preparing to set up some bigger repercussions for the MCU moving forward.
Loki Season 2 is going to likely blow our minds just like the first one did and we cannot wait to start covering it. And we are so lucky because we really don’t have to wait much longer. Our predictions episode is going to be coming out next Monday, which will kick off at least 7 weeks of coverage. Get ready and keep up with us, as Marvel just blew your mind, so let’s talk about it.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been the film that I think most have anticipated since knowing it was coming after the first Black Panther and Infinity War/Endgame era. After the first film’s success and the cultural impact, it makes perfect sense why this was. But I don’t need to remind anyone of the events of 2020 that significantly impacted specifically this film and took control of the Black Panther narrative, leading it to a different path than the one it was supposed to take. Here we are, days away from the premiere of the second Black Panther film without their leading actor. Since so much has changed, there was plenty to hit in this predictions episode, so make sure to take a listen before continuing to read this blog post, if you haven’t already. You can find your listening platform of choice by clicking the button or listen in live time by hitting play on the link below!
Since we avoided this topic with a 10-foot stick in our last episode, let’s hit the biggest question right from the jump: who is the next Black Panther? For obvious reasons, I don’t think we need to argue too hard that it is very likely Shuri, but we can’t forget that one of the trailers does show a male Black Panther. So I guess our question more specifically should be: who is the male BP that we see? One running theory that we have is that prior to Shuri ascending the throne (as obviously, the person on the thrown is the one who takes the mantle of the BP), her mother becomes queen. As her mother is obviously older, she may have chosen a warrior to be the BP for her as Shuri is prepped for a thrown she was never supposed to take. On a different note, the suit looked to be very similar to the gold and black suit that Killmonger wore in the first Black Panther film. While I don’t think it is him for obvious reasons, and I don’t expect us to see any multiversal elements in this film, if we are to assume the gold suit stands more for the nemesis, another theory is that the suit itself is stolen. We don’t have much thought on who, but the stolen suit might be what becomes the catalyst for the war between Atlantis and Wakanda. We obviously have some other theories on that one, but a BP suit in the wrong hands could cause a lot of damage.
Moving into the conflict between the two nations, many things might have set it off. Obviously, we have the theory from above, but is it also possible that M’Baku has a role to play in it all. When watching the trailers, the thing that caught my eye was that M’Baku seems to be sharing quite a bit of information about Namor with Shuri and other royal/army figures. This raised the question about how he might know this information and in this moment, even with his obvious redemption, we have to remember that M’Baku did not always agree with how Wakanda handled itself. I wonder if there is a possibility of an old friend (Namor) of M’Baku’s coming to settle a debt they had. Additionally, there is the possibility that T’Challa and Namor had an understanding between the two nations, an understanding that came to an end when T’Challa passed away. Namor’s actor has stated that he sees his character more as an anti-hero, so I do think that means there is a deeper reason why he is doing what he does in the film, just like Killmonger.
There’s one more theory we have on why conflict erupts between the nations of Wakanda and Atlantis, and that is our good friend the colonizer aka Agent Everett Ross. Obviously, we know he is on pretty solid terms with Wakanda after the events of the first Black Panther. After all, he was a huge support to T’Challa when he decided that Wakanda should open its borders. So fast forward now to this trailer where we see a government team exploring the deep ocean, which we can only assume is the U.S. government as they play such a role in most of the other films. They threaten the people of Atlantis, they strike back, and the Dora Milaje intervenes. This would make the two worlds suddenly enemies, as I’m sure governments, in general, have not been kind to nations such as Atlantis. I mean, there is a reason Wakanda kept itself a secret, isn’t there?
As I have mentioned him about forty times, let’s talk about Namor himself. He is the son of a sea captain and a princess of Atlantis, which is what gives him abilities tied to the Atlantian species. On top of that, he is a mutant (yes, I said mutant) who has the following powers:
Aquatic adaptation
Superhuman strength, speed, durability, agility, senses and reflexes
Pretty much, this guy is loaded with mutant powers and is technically the first real mutant we are seeing who knows fully what they are. He is going to be a force in this film and due to his powers and run in the comics, will likely make a continued appearance after this film. I don’t expect to see a Killmonger end to Namor, not with the potential he has as a character or with the fact he is a mutant.
The final topic I want to make sure is hit before we get into our end credit predictions is Riri Williams making her MCU debut. This really excites me, as we have gotten a lot of origin stories on Disney+ and I like that Riri’s is going to be like how we used to get new characters: they just sort of appear in the movie. I think it will also bring a different tone to Ironheart when it does come out because we won’t be starting from the very beginning with this character. But we do need to touch on her role in this film, as it’s pretty important to know her involvement. It seems from the trailer she is quite close to Shuri, which obviously makes sense based on their genius backgrounds. Yet, I want to know how they met? Did it come from Shuri’s time working in California? Did they meet randomly? Or is Riri crashing into Wakanda from a different connection and she and Shuri hit it off? Either way, it will be interesting to see her level of involvement in this film and what relationships she maintains in Wakanda afterward.
Let’s finish this out with some end-credit predictions. We have gotten confirmation that there is only one end credit scene (sad), but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some great thoughts on what it might contain. One possible end-credit scene is Namor interacting with another mutant/X-Men. This could help explain where his character goes after this film, although I do think we are only jogging to the mutant storyline, so I’m not sure I expect to see any big characters appear here. Another possibility is any Ant-Man-related scene, as that is the next film and has had a trailer already drop only a few weeks ago. This would be fairly on par with how Marvel has used at least one end-credit scene to usually hint at the next film. The next theory could be that it is Riri setting up for her show, although I think this one would be disappointing. I’m excited about her role in this film and her show, but I don’t think we will need the end-credit scene to get us there. Lastly, and likely my favorite, is that someone really important, especially to Wakanda, is revealed to be a Skrull. Secret Invasion is coming very quickly and I think this would be a great reveal, just like it was after Far From Home. It also could be fitting, as in the comics, Black Panther does go to war against the Skrulls in Wakanda. This one would definitely shock me the most and as we haven’t gotten anything more than a trailer for Secret Invasion yet, it would be extremely fitting to start building the hype for it.
It’s safe to say we are really excited to see what comes out of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The first few rounds of reviews are coming in and it is certainly scoring high. It is bound to be an emotional trip and we can’t wait to cover our reactions to it and hear what you all thought! One last thing to remember as you enter this movie this weekend is that this is the finale of Phase 4 and moving forward we will be in Phase 5 of the MCU, so definitely get ready as we move closer to films like Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. As always, keep up with all this great content, along with ours, as Marvel just blew your mind, so let’s talk about it.
On June 1st we turned the big one years old, a huge accomplishment for a fetus podcast. To believe we have been doing this for a year blows our minds and we couldn’t have done any of it without our fans being there to support us. This whole thing was born out of a simple college project that I had to do one day and fell in love with creating. I roped my sister into it and the next you know we had a podcast and blog that we worked on getting content out for each week. So here we are, one year later, and in celebration, we have a special podcast episode talking about some of our favorite moments and topics we covered, along with what to expect in year two. Check it out below.
Since it’s a fairly short episode, I won’t bog down the blog too much with small things. I do want to share, though, some of the exciting things that you as fans can expect to come in the next year of our podcast. The first thing that you can expect is our Redbubble store that will be selling our first round of merch in the form of stickers! These are a cool way to show off one of your favorite podcasts to others and I can’t lie and say I am not prepared to buy a bunch of them myself. So keep an eye out for an announcement from us when the store is up and running!
Another really exciting development is going to be our newsletter that we will be rolling out in the month of August. The newsletter will come out monthly and will vary in content, but you can always expect a calendar of that month’s content to prepare for all the things that will come up. Some newsletters will include character run-downs, comic facts, and other fun sections for you to engage with us and Marvel as a whole a little more. We are really pumped about this and hope you all are too. You can expect to see more news about this as we get closer to August and your chance to subscribe will be on our website starting mid-July.
Entering year two is insane and once again I want to thank you all for supporting us and liking us enough to stick around (I’m only semi-kidding). We really do appreciate your support and hope you continue to stick with us as we grow bigger and deliver better things to you all. As for what you can look forward to, we are beginning our coverage of Ms. Marvel for the next few weeks as it premieres every Wednesday. We are definitely excited for another show to debut so make sure to keep up as Marvel just blew your mind, so let’s talk about it.
